Sassy and fun choreography workshop with Claudine of The Dance Within studio and her teen troupe “Jewels of the Nile” before the Hafla!!

2:00 - 4:00 PM
at Wells Hall, 310 North K St, Tacoma, WA
(same location as Hafla)

Claudine facilitates body awareness and self-confidence through her energetic and supportive teaching style. She is also the director of the teen troupe “Jewels of the Nile” and a pre-teen troupe “Diamonds”. During this workshop she will teach one of her troupe choreographies to Nancy Ajram’s - “Gayinn You’Oulouli”, a spicy Arabic pop song.

Claudine’s passion for having fun will make this workshop more than “just a workshop”. This routine can be danced as a stand alone solo, for duets/triads or for troupes. This might even be a great routine for instructors to teach to their advanced/beginner classes.

With assistance from girls in her troupe, Claudine will break down a choreography that is perfect for beginners to intermediate students. All you need is a smile and an interest in learning Claudine’s signature style.

Come join us!!!

About Claudine

Claudine's inspiration for the dance is watching her students blossom at any age from 3 years old to 83. Observing her students and dance sisters having "fun", smiling, feeling good about themselves and their bodies is what drives her as a teacher.

Women and girls come to her classes for many reasons: for fitness, to learn a new dance form, to be in a sisterhood of other women, to make friends, to dress up….what ever the reason she wants her students to have fun, feel safe, and learn to dance.

To create The Dance Within philosophy, Claudine blends her knowledge of Middle Eastern Dance with her background as a certified team-builder, her experience promoting self-esteem in girls and women, and her Degree in Sociology from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She inspires all females to have fun while discovering their beauty within through belly dance. She is also the Director/Choreographer of the annual production of " A Night of Belly Dance" in Kitsap County.

Having been trained in mostly Egyptian and American Cabaret, Claudine’s love is dancing to Arabic Pop music. Although she admires the gracefulness and art of traditional Cabaret she is known for adding her own playfulness and a pinch of sass. Working intensely with teen girls has also allowed her to toss in a blend of hip hop, making her version of belly dancing fun, adaptable and more contemporary.

Claudine’s first teacher 10 years ago was Habib. In addition to taking private lessons from some of the best and well-respected teachers, she is a workshop/retreat junkie. Her style is a blending of the various experiences she received at: Raksassah West week-long (California, 2004, 2005, 2006), Sausan's Egyptian Academy week-long intensive (2006), Hadia's week-long Instructors Training (Canada, 2005), Middle Eastern Music and Dance Camp (California, 2002. 2005, 2006), Oasis Dance Camp, West (Washington, 2002, 2003, 2007), , Emerald Rain Sanctuary (Washington, 2005, 2007), and Kosmos World Dance Camp (California, 2007)

Claudine is also the Executive Director of a new non-profit organization that builds positive body image and self-esteem in girls.

www.ourbeautywithin.org

How a girl feels about herself is crucial to how she behaves and the choices she makes in her lifetime...

We are fighting a daily battle against negative media images that promote unhealthy body weights and an overall obsession with “what’s wrong” with our bodies. Body image is tied directly to self-confidence and self-esteem. Lack of self-worth can lead to: anxiety and depression, obesity, promiscuity, substance abuse, eating disorders, and other self-destructive behaviors. By helping girls feel confident and positive about their bodies we can help prevent these negative messages affecting young girls of today.

Mission Statement

The purpose of Our Beauty Within is to instill a strong, confident sense of self in girls 8-12 through the development of positive self-esteem and healthy body image by providing education and interactive experiences.
